My blog is intended to show how I construct and write a historical novel. It will be a journal of my daily writing activity, as I write a new historical novel.

Location: Evansburg, Alberta, Canada

Hooray! Today I finished the first draft of my WIP. Now comes the hard work—editing, re-writing critically, and correcting all errors—spelling, grammar, syntax, vocabulary, and most of all, thematic, characterization, and plot.

Also the conflict has to be realistic, just as the solution has to be reasonable and within the realm of possibility.

Of course, I will set it aside for a while, a month or so before I begin that work. In the meantime, I will relax, but I will write something almost every day—short stories, articles, essays, and read, read, read, novels, short stories, articles, essays, and non-fiction books.

Today the last scene wrote better than I thought it would. When I finished, I was satisfied with it. Later, I may not be. The story ended with the major celebration that inaugurated the province, but with a surprise ending which I will not give away.
